Opdahl's Donuts is a cute, little, one-of-a-kind, small town bakery in Fertile, Minnesota where we've been making made-from-scratch goodies since May 2011. We do not make the usual filled, raised, or glazed donuts that the "run-of-the-mill" bakeries have. Grandma didn't make those things! She made old fashioned buttermilk cake donuts, cookies, pies, muffins, and caramel rolls, amongst other things. Started in 2011 by Jane Opdahl and sold over to her daughter-in-law, Becca Opdahl, our family-owned bakery strives to bring happiness and nostalgia to our customers. Our name and reputation has spread far and wide over the years. We have customers from all over the region stopping by to enjoy our products. They share with their families and also with their friends. They can say with certainty that the donuts are "just like Grandma used to make"!

We have a wide variety of options which include Chocolate Chip, Monster, White Sugar, Snickerdoodle, Oatmeal Raisin, Frosted Molasses, Date Filled, Ginger Snap, Sugared Molasses, Peanut Butter, and Chocolate Chip Oatmeal.
Everyday we offer a fresh bread of the day on a rotating schedule. Our regular bread options are 7-Grain, Caraway Rye, Cinnamon Raisin, Flax, Focaccia, French, Honey Oat, Root Beer Rye, White, and Whole Wheat. Our quick bread options are Banana Bread, Banana Bread with Walnuts, and Pumpkin Bread. At the begining of each month, a bread schedule is made available for our customers to pick up.
Pies are our daily special on Fridays. We make six or seven different pies each Friday on a rotating schedule. Pies can also be ordered for special dates or holidays. We bake Apple, Banana Cream, Blueberry, Bumbleberry, Chocolate, Chocolate Andes Mint, Coconut Cream, Graham Cracker, Lemon Meringue, Peach, Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Pecan, Pumpkin, Rhubarb, Rhubarb-Raspberry, Sour Cream Raisin, and Strawberry-Rhubarb.
Our muffins have always been a huge hit! Muffins are our daily special on Tueday and Saturday. We have a variety of flavors such as Almond Poppy Seed, Apple Walnut, Banana Chocolate Chip, Banana Nut, Blackberry, Blueberry, Chocolate Chip, Double Chocolate Chip, Lemon Poppy Seed, Peach, Pumpkin with Raisins and Walnuts, Pumpkin Cream Cheese, Raspberry, and Rhubarb.
Our scones are very tasty with their soft texture and saturated flavor. Scones are our daily special on Monday and Tuesday. Our flavors include Apple Walnut, Blueberry-Lemon, Chocolate Chip Pecan, Lemon Poppy Seed, Peaches 'n' Cream, Raspberry-White Chocolate, and Strawberry.

Our daily special on Thursdays. A made from scratch bread dough formed into rolls and baked in a homemade caramel sauce.
Cinnamon rolls are not a daily special but can be ordered. They are a made from scratch bread dough formed into cinnamon rolls, baked, and frosted with our homemade cream cheese frosting.
It all began in 2005. Bergeson Nursery had been serving donuts to their customers for decades. Their current donut maker was ready to retire. Jane Opdahl took advantage of this opportunity. She talked to Eric Bergeson about her interest in taking the position. Jane was not new to the donut making business. She and her husband have owned and operated the Mini Donut Factory since 1989, where they travel to many of the area county fairs and other events. Eric approved her for the position. She knew that she should use her mother's donut recipe. When she started making donuts for Bergeson Nursery, they were very well received. People would follow Jane home from the nursery to buy donuts that she had stocked in her freezer.
In 2009, she started to sell her donuts at the Mentor Farmers Market and her customer base continued to grow. An opportunity was presented to Jane about opening a storefront for her donuts in conjunction with a health food store. In May of 2011, the Opdahl's Donuts storefront opened. At the beginning, the bakery sold only donuts. In the late fall of 2011, they began to make four kinds of cookies. Over time, Opdahl's Donuts has added additional cookies to their lineup. In October of 2011, Becca Opdahl joined Opdahl's Donuts as a part-time employee. In the fall of 2014, the health food store moved into their own storefront, so Opdahl's Donuts was able to occupy the entire building. At that point, Opdahl's Donuts slowly started making muffins, scones, caramel rolls and other baked goods, which later evolved into their daily special schedule.
On January 1, 2018, Opdahl's Donuts changed ownership. Jane Opdahl sold the business to her daughter-in-law, Becca Opdahl. Becca continues to use the same recipes and processes to ensure their products remain true to their motto "Just like Grandma used to make".
